When you have a bone density done. It will show if you have or have not osteoporosis. The doctor may order an infusion to help replace.bone. Watch out for fat soluble vitamins and minerals. Some of these OTC drugs causes constipation like iron. I hope that you get a good doctor and one that communicates well. Ask all the questions that you need to. Your money is paying for it. I have been fortunate to have the same doctor since 2008. I tell him that he can’t retire or die before me. We just joke about it. Lol

I will. Im changing specialist. But can't get in to see him till June. My Dr now, im not happy with and its a 2 1/2 hour drive. Talk to her about vitamins, all she said was years you can take vitamins. She didn't go over which ones would be good for me. I do take B-12, Iron and vitamin A. With our immune system is lower i guess I should take Vitamin C.

Most people in general are low in vitamin D. According to studies you can not get enough of it by just being in the sun. A multivitamin is good. Some people take zinc, omega 3 and calcium also. You need to let your doctor be aware that you are interested in vitamin therapy. It depends on which group of meds that you take. Example people need to take folic acid with methotrexate. I take coenzyme because I have heart issues and I use topical vitamin E for my skin. Ex: you can’t take oral vitamin E if you take blood thinners. Prednisone and RA meds deplete vitamin Bs. Vitamin C is good if you have a cold, flu etc. So that is why I recommend talking to the doctor before starting vitamins. Each case is different and that is why that I get labs every 3-4 months.

What vitamins should you consider taking for rheumatoid arthritis?

Several vitamins and supplements may help manage RA symptoms, though it's important to talk with your rheumatologist before starting any new supplements.

Vitamin D may be particularly beneficial. Research shows that people with RA often have lower vitamin D levels, and deficiency is linked to more severe disease activity. Some studies suggest supplementation may reduce disability and inflammation markers, though results are mixed on pain relief.

Omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil supplements have shown promise in reducing joint pain and tenderness. Studies found that taking concentrated fish oil can lead to fewer tender joints and less pain, likely due to anti-inflammatory effects.

Vitamin B12 is used by some myRAteam members to combat fatigue. One specific form called methyl B12 (methylcobalamin) may help reduce nerve pain caused by RA by strengthening nerve fibers. The typical daily recommendation is 2.4 micrograms for adults, though higher doses may be needed for nerve pain.

Calcium is important for bone health, especially since people with RA have increased risk of bone loss. Typical supplementation ranges from 1,000-1,300 milligrams daily, and it works best when combined with vitamin D.

Turmeric (curcumin) has anti-inflammatory properties and some studies show it may reduce pain when taken at doses under 1,200 milligrams daily.

Always consult your doctor about appropriate dosages and to ensure supplements won't interact with your RA medications.
