Cosmo,
Try drinking lemon water, daily. Use organic lemon, if you can. Squeeze the juice of one lemon into water, add thin straps of the pith (white lining of lemon). See if you experience a difference within 30 days. Your hair and nails should begin growing.
Good Luck!

Can you increase folic acid from 2.5mg to 5mg weekly to help with hair loss while waiting for your March doctor appointment?

It's understandable to want relief from hair loss, but it's important not to change your folic acid dosage without consulting your healthcare provider first. The timing and amount of folic acid prescribed with methotrexate is specifically calculated for your treatment plan.

Folic acid is often prescribed with methotrexate to counteract side effects, including hair loss. While some people take 5mg once weekly and others take smaller daily doses, the regimen varies based on individual needs and methotrexate dosing.

If you're experiencing significant hair loss, consider:

* Contacting your doctor's office before March to discuss the hair loss - they may be able to advise by phone
* Asking if an earlier appointment is available
* Discussing whether biotin supplements might help (but check with your doctor first)

Some myRAteam members have found that taking folic acid as prescribed, combined with biotin, helped improve hair texture and reduce hair loss. However, proper dosage is important to discuss with your doctor to ensure it's appropriate for your specific treatment plan.

Don't adjust your medication dosage on your own, as it could affect your RA treatment effectiveness.
