How long does it typically take to feel relief from Rituxan (rituximab)?

It's understandable to feel frustrated when you're not experiencing relief yet. Rituxan typically takes quite a bit longer to work compared to some other treatments.

Most people don't notice improvements until three months or more after their loading doses. The effects can continue developing over time, with benefits potentially lasting six to 12 months or longer once the medication starts working.

Since you're about two months out from your loading doses, you're approaching the timeframe when many people begin to see results. The gap in treatment when switching from Actemra may have also affected your timeline. What to keep in mind:

Rituxan works by eliminating B cells that produce autoantibodies, which takes time to show clinical improvement. The first course usually eliminates most B cells and decreases rheumatoid factor levels, but the anti-inflammatory effects aren't immediate.

It's important to stay in close contact with your rheumatologist about your pain and swelling. They can assess whether you need additional support while waiting for Rituxan to reach its full effect, or determine if adjustments to your treatment plan are needed.

A myRAteam member shared similar patience was needed with methotrexate, noting it took about six months before really feeling the benefits. Hang in there, and keep your doctor informed about your symptoms.
