Ok. This is more of an admission of stupidy rather than a question πŸ˜‚. In March I had surgery and due to post op meds I kept skipping my second dose of HCQ. I dont like taking medications anyway and I just didnt think it would make a difference as long as I took it once a day. By April I developed low back pain which turned into months of extremely painful sciatica. I spent July in bed & had an epidural in August. I was better but still not 100%. Flared it back up twisting. Sneezing would… read more

Hello, ladies. I've done the let's reduce a medication and see what happens either by choice, mistake or having to due to pre or post-op surgery. RA meds or for other conditions. I can tell you for a fact, it's never gone well. Perhaps weaning off gradually works better, or not. I just figure it is what it is. A rheumatologist, I saw her once and never again, said it's not going to get better and is going to get a whole lot worse. See you in 3 months. Nope. Not happening. I can't work with a doctor with that attitude. I can't imagine her even looking for optimal treatment options out there.

My rheumatologist has told me if I wouldn't have been on hydroxycloriquine my RA would have progressed much worse. I was on it for 7 years. I had to go off of it because at my yearly eye exam it started making changes to my eye.

Yes I get my yearly eye exams done. I am fortunate to have found a med that has helped me. I just hate being sick and having to take the meds.

You definitely do need to have regular eye checks with hydroxychoroquine. I had to weigh the balance of positive benefits of hydroxychoroquine versus negative effects on my eyes. It helps to have a rheumatologist and eye specialist who talk to each other.
It also helps to not be so complicated but too late for that, I'm afraid.
