Members offered encouragement and practical advice for someone adjusting to weekly methotrexate injections after switching from bi-weekly dosing. Several members shared helpful strategies, including using smartphone calendar reminders and a journal app to track injection dates and body locations to avoid re-injecting the same site, taking Leucovorin 8-12 hours after injections to reduce side effects, and using ginger drops from Amazon to manage nausea more effectively than prescription options like Zofran. A recurring theme was normalizing the adjustment period, acknowledging that fatigue and other side effects may overlap when dosing weekly, and celebrating the hopeful goal of finding the right medication combination that could lead to remission.

Changing from biweekly to weekly injections is a common dosing adjustment with biologics. Higher doses may be given weekly at the beginning of treatment and then potentially tapered off to less frequent doses. It's normal for your body to need time to adjust to the new schedule.

Changing from biweekly to weekly injections is a common dosing adjustment with biologics. Higher doses may be given weekly at the beginning of treatment and then potentially tapered off to less frequent doses. It's normal for your body to need time to adjust to the new schedule.

Some common side effects when adjusting to biologics include:
• Injection site reactions
• Headaches
• Nausea
• Feeling "off" temporarily If you experience any concerning symptoms like:
• Fever or chills
• Severe pain
• Rash
• Infection signs at injection site (redness, warmth, increased pain)

Contact your doctor right away. Remember to rotate injection sites to reduce reactions and give your skin time to heal between doses.

When I start taking the injections of methotrexate every Wednesday it did take my body a bit of time getting accustom to the medication. I actually setup the calendar on Google for the specific day to show early so I had the morning reminder letting me know when I checked morning email.

Since I have an iPhone, I also use the Reminder app and have the same schedule set onto it since I am using the smart phone more than the laptop. I just discovered I can use the Journal app on the iPhone every week when taking the injection to make note of date, time, and where on body the injection was made.
By making this type of journal weekly you will always know where the injections were done then never inject into the same location on the following week as this will help you avoid that type of injury.

I been taking methotrexate 2023 so it's been a constant learning that has been going on. Luckily all has been going well but I still have those days when I get stiff just not as often. I look forward to chatting more with you!

I used to get a biologic infusion every 6 months. Way better, so much so, it put me into remission which is what Rituximab is known for. In remission since April 2024. My RA is supposed to return and I’m waiting for signs to appear at some point. The main idea is with any if the drugs is to find the right one for you and eventually attain remission. :)
