It's important to understand that blood tests don't always tell the complete story of what's happening in your body with RA. You can experience significant joint pain and swelling even when your inflammation markers appear normal. Many myRAteam members report having severe symptoms despite their lab results being within normal ranges.
Joint pain with RA can manifest as throbbing, aching, and severe discomfort, particularly during flares. The pain may be worse in the morning or after periods of inactivity, and joints often feel warm, swollen, and tender to touch. To help manage these symptoms, regardless of lab results, consider:
- Using cold therapy to reduce swelling
- Elevating affected joints when possible
- Taking prescribed medications as directed
- Following an anti-inflammatory diet
- Working with your rheumatologist to adjust your treatment plan if needed
Remember that your experienced symptoms are valid, even if they don't align with blood test results. Always communicate openly with your healthcare provider about your pain levels and symptoms.

I am seronegative. I originally had a high ANA test. I asked your same question to my rheumatologist. He said if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. It's so true.

Our bodies fight things differently. It may be genetics as to how are bodies maintains chemical balance or whether we have imbalances. I've had high cholesterol since I tested in my early 30s. With a good diet and being skinny and hyper.
Some doctors live by concrete test results. But studies have shown there are false positives and false negatives. Though I have every symptom of RA except the positive blood test.
Maybe one day that could change... or not.
