Yes, rheumatoid arthritis can definitely cause hip pain. While RA commonly affects smaller joints, it can also impact larger joints like the hips. The pain typically occurs on both sides of the body symmetrically, though sometimes it may affect just one hip.

Hip pain from RA can feel dull and achy, and may extend to the groin, buttocks, knee, or outer thigh. Some people experience pain that radiates down the inside of their leg. The pain often gets worse with physical activity or after sitting or sleeping for long periods. Along with pain, RA in the hips can cause other symptoms like joint locking, sticking, or grinding noises. Many people experience difficulty walking or develop a limp due to decreased range of motion. The condition can also make sleeping challenging, especially when trying to lie on your side.

If you're experiencing hip pain, talk to your doctor about treatment options. There are several medications available that can help manage pain and reduce inflammation, including NSAIDs, DMARDs, biologics, and corticosteroid injections.

I can no longer go for walks, because of pain (achiness) in both hips. It certainly is depressing. The pain in hips often radiates towards the front of my abdominal area. Then it makes walking difficult and I have to lean over when walking.

Absolutely. It sometimes really keeps me from walking, which is sometimes my only option for excercise.

Yes it is bad. I think I will be starting Methotrexate shots soon. Hope it helps.
