My last lab came back with an AST/ALT ratio of 1.72. ALT 11, AST 19. Both are normal but Alt has consistently been going down since the start of Methotrexate (Alt- 11, 15, 25, 16, 30), ((Ast-19, 17,1917,22). My labs were otherwise good. I don't drink but had a very slight fatty liver at the start of Methotrexate. I'm on a low protein, low fat vegan elimination diet(Paddison Plan).
Ok, so here's the point. My alt is getting consistently lower and my AST/ALT ratio is getting higher. All info I… read more
ALT specific for liver. AST good. I’m a lab tech. Your values are good.
Thank you so very much! I have worked very hard to tackle this since spring and yes I am very fortunate. I don't take a moment of that for granted. I was in a very bad mental place last spring.
You r lucky your AST and ALT are so low. Ratio is meaningless, especially with normal AST and ALT. If you are still worried check with your PCP. If you are still worried after that check with gastroenterologist.
Your concern about liver health while on methotrexate is valid, especially with a history of fatty liver. Here's some clarification:
1. AST/ALT Ratio: While an elevated AST/ALT ratio can sometimes indicate liver fibrosis or cirrhosis, it is not diagnostic on its own, especially when both AST and ALT are within normal Show Full Answer
