Members responded to someone experiencing severe all-over itching from a Dilaudid pain pump after surgery, with many recognizing it as a known side effect or allergic reaction to opioids rather than a typical raised rash. Several members shared similar experiences with various pain medications causing intense itching, vomiting, or rashes, and strongly urged the original poster to alert their nurse and doctor immediately to switch medications and receive IV Benadryl or other counter-medications for relief. A recurring theme was the seriousness of untreated reactions, with multiple members cautioning about the risk of dangerous conditions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome and emphasizing the importance of not suffering needlessly when alternative pain management options are available.

Hi MarcyMoorhead
The only time I was put on the medication is when I was having sever pain and the ER gave it to me in California ER.
It didn't make me ichy I just threw up but the pain went away and I sleept at home
I have had Fenttonal, Morphine, Demirol, before and after surgery.
It made me woopy and I didn't hurt until the next day. When I went home 🏡 the Dr.s gave me Oxycoden 10mg and it really didn't help much. But I got threw it. You may need to go to the ER if you're scratching really hard you make yourself bleed. Be careful and call your Dr.
Don't suffer needlessly get help. I hope I answered you're question.

Sorry that you are going through this. After last Covid Vaccine, my skin itched like crazy for 3 months. Scratched until I bled. Benadryl OTC did NOTHING to help me. You MAY need IV Benadryl. If I were you, I would go to the ER.

I reacted to it as well but I was just taking tablets so could stop it right away. I got a full torso rash. I am surprised the Dr. doesn't take you off it right away, they should. There are other options they can give you When I had a severe reaction once, I was injected with benadryl and it worked right away.. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery!

Itching can be a side effect of opiates. There's a medicine they can give you for that. When my mom wakes up I will ask her the name. She's on it now because of the itching caused by the opioid she's taking for her broken back.
