I’ve always been told to avoid it as much as possible, as the success rate is not positive, but I may have no choice. Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

I’m so glad to hear these responses. I too have been told by several orthopedic surgeons that the technique is just not there yet. I’ve had two successful knee replacements and a shoulder replacement. Although the pain is intense at times, I guess I’ll wait. I would be interested to hear from some one who’s had one.

Hi, I was diagnosed with RA 44 years ago at age 18. I have had 19 surgeries including joint replacements & fusions, one of which was an elbow replacement on my right elbow 20 years ago in March of 2004. My load limit is 5 lbs. My left elbow also has a 5 lb. limit due to a nerve being crushed & having to be placed in a different area in my elbow. My right elbow is still going strong. I have lifted my 4 grandchildren several times and lifted other heavy things at times too. I do obey what my Dr’s tell me most all of the time even though it’s hard because I know it’s for my own good. For me, I keep myself moving all the time or I’d be horribly stiff all the time. I believe a person has to do what they feel is best for them. I was not pleased that I had to have the elbow replacement (or any surgery for that matter) but it sure did help with the pain. My arm does not straighten out completely but at least I can still use it. I hope all these comments will help you decide what’s best for you and I wish you the best of luck in any decision. 😊

Hello,
I have been living with chronic RA for 39 years. It started at age 18🥲! Due to my deteriorated joints, I had both knees replaced, surgeries on both feet and fusions on both wrists. My doctor recommended elbow replacement after two years of pain. I refused to limit my lifting to only 5 lbs. I sought treatment from Dr. O’Driscoll at Mayo (MN) He was able to scrape and repair my elbow back to normal. I have no pain, stiffness or swelling and full strength. There are other options, please research before replacing your elbow.
Sending healthy vibes your way.

I was diagnosed with RA at age 26, 31 years ago. I have 14 joint replacements and 4 fusions. I had both elbows replaced 19 years ago, with no issues. I try to be mindful but have on occasion lifted more than 5 pounds. They're still going strong, thankfully. I wish you well!!
