I go for reflexology and was told to try Castor Oil. Haven’t heard of that product for years. Anyway tried it on my knees/wrists and it is helping I put it on some pads and wrap my knees. This keeps my clothes etc free from this oil. Also noticed my hands are very soft. Old school remedy

I, like Elizabeth and sig10, also have a taper pack of medrol (prednisone and I don't get along) and use only when everything else doesn't touch it. I use hot baths, voltaren on my hands and elbows (not really a home remedy), and I also have THC/CBD gummies on hand that help tremendously for 4-6 hours... long enough to give me a (mental) break and I truly think it helps with the pain short term. I know it is a controversial topic and it is still illegal in my state, but I only have to go 50 miles to get it legally, I just have to use it illegally in my state. I do not use it recreationally as my cognitive state is altered and I really don't like that aspect of it, but the relief is noticeable even if only short term and there are times when I just need that break.
Flares are such a hard thing to deal with and when they come, often without any warning, they can be debilitating. My heart goes out to all of us who deal with them.
