Has Anyone Had A Painful Burning On The Knee Cap?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭
Utah

I am having a weird burning feeling on my knee cap. I really can't tell if it's on the skin, the veins or knee. I can't lean on the knee at all. I don't know if it's RA related something else.

Members shared varied experiences with knee burning, ranging from nerve pain unrelated to RA to severe inflammation from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis requiring surgery. Several members found relief through cortisone injections, hyaluronic dextrose injections for Baker's cysts, medications like Cymbalta, Lyrica, and gabapentin for nerve pain, ice packs, and rest, with one member crediting Jon Kabat-Zinn's pain meditations for managing severe discomfort. A recurring theme was the importance of communicating symptoms clearly to doctors, advocating for timely appointments and treatment, and balancing necessary activities with self-care even when knowing there might be painful consequences.

Did they give you any injections? See if you can get the hoopla app - free from the library. when I was ready to lose my mind with avn in my hips I did Jon Kabbat Zinn's meditations for pain once or twice a day and it would bring 10+ pain down to a 6.

I took a x-ray in my leg due to the pain in my knee. It was a round spot and it scared me due to the cancer that runs in my family. Dr told me it was barker cyst he give me 3 injection 💉 in the knee and haven't had pain since. Only when I sit to long I can feel a sharp pain in the leg.

Thank you everyone for your experiences and suggestions. I really think it's veins or nerves. I've had knee pain from my rheumatoid but this I don't think is tendons or bone. It burns when I've been in the sun. Sometimes it feels like my whole front of my leg is stinging. Gosh I know I'm rambling. I'm just nervous. I'm leaving to go up North for 3 days to pick up my youngest. It's a 5 hour drive. Longest I've done in the last year since my RA has gotten worse. I guess I'll take my ice pack, it does seem to take some of the sting and swelling down for a bit. Thank you everyone. Foxbessler, good luck at your cardiologist and I hope you get your surgery soon.🙏❤️

Hi Carol,

Is the pain on the sides of the knee cap or right on top? On the sides of the kneecap are the tendons. When they're inflamed, it's a burning pain. I get this when I exercise too much. I have had cortisone injections which do help.
