How are you supposed to feel if Methotrexate and Hydroxychloroquine are working? I do have less swelling and stiffness but I still feel bad. Especially after the MTX shot. Is it worth feeling exhausted, brain fog and still some pain. What happens if you do not take the medication? How quickly or slowly does RA progress?
I used methotrexate for 5 years with nearly complete control of RA. I hated the side effects (nausea, headache, dizzy), so I quit taking it in December. What a mistake that was! I got a terrible flare starting in January. We tried other meds, but I could not tolerate them. So discouraging! I required a burst of higher dose prednisone to calm it down, now I’m back on the MTX with adequate relief of pain & stiffness but my RA has advanced. I now have more joints affected. I wish I would have worked with my dr before abruptly quitting.
Hi Angie - How long have you been on the Meth. Shot? Sorry you're still feeling other symptoms of RA. Have you adjusted your lifestyle to manage the brain fog, fatigue and the small amount of pain? You maybe able to shake these with some small adjustments so that that shot works better for you.
The medication keeps your immune system under control - that's all it does. It'll keep it from damaging your joints and organs over time. For many, if you're not actively doing lifestyle changes or working on the Root Causes of RA, progression will be steady.
@A myRAteam Member That soda is a difficult one. I loved 🥰 my Diet Coke!! Congratulations on getting down to 1/2 a can. 💪🏻 Stay strong. It’s the sugar that addicting. Have your tried replacing it with a Kombucha. Kombucha is great for the gut microbiome. Be sure to check the sugar content of the bottle before purchasing. Some kombucha has ALOT 😳more sugar then others. I make my own - I could send you info. On this if you’d like.
I’m so glad that bread works for you. It’s great bread!
Cleaning products are a tough one. I feel like there’s conflicting information every time I research on it. For all of my fruit and vegetables I clean them with white vinegar and baking soda. I use baking soda tablets in my dishwasher and a baking soda product called ‘Nellie’s’ for washing our clothes. I use Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile soap in our foaming hand soap dispensers. (I can give you there recipe) I tried it as a dish soap and didn’t like it. I’m currently trying Palmolive pure + clear. It seems that there is a lot of information out there using baking soda and vinegar. So I lean this way because it’s cheap. My husband won’t part with his heavy duty toilet bowl cleaner 🤣🤣but you can only do so much. 🤣🤣 I changed out all of plastics to reusable bags and glass containers. I changed my personal soaps to organic bands or handmade soaps and my toothpaste is organic. I get my shampoo & conditioner from my hairdresser - I decided I’m not parting with it. I tried a bunch of organic and natural alternatives but my hair and I hated them. Lol🤣 Again seriously a person could get lost down a rabbit hole trying to get all the toxins out of their life and home.
Sorry so long winded☺️😑 I hope some of this may help.
@A myRAteam Member Thank you. That helps a ton! I saw that you had recommended the Ezekiel bread for someone else so I bought some. It is very good. I haven't gotten to the cleaning products yet. What do you suggest for cleaning? I have cut WAY back on the soda (1/2 can a day). I'm definitely feeling the withdrawal effects. Thank you and everyone else for the help. You are all so kind!
Soda is known to cause inflammation not only sugar. You doing everything you should or could. But this is a progressive disease you can slow it down but you can't stop the disease. Just continue to do what you're doing and enjoy you life/less you think about it more you start to feel different. I been in remission 3x. 1x was for 5 months 2x was a 1 yrs 3x 1 month. It just happen without even knowing it. Then it comes back even stronger all you can do is deal with it. Take care ❤ have beautiful 😍 summer.
