Hi, I was getting my first infusion of Rituximab yesterday and broke out in hives after only receiving 1/10 of the dose. I’m just curious if anyone else has had this experience?

Hi Carol,

Yes, I developed hives on my chest, and an itchy throat after the first hour. I was then given and high dose of steroids which made me extremely jittery. After the steroids, the hives subsided.

I was pretreated with Benadryl and steroids before the infusion but still reacted. I was given a second dose of Benadryl and steroids after the hives appeared and they quickly cleared up. My doctor recommended I stop the infusion and not risk anaphylaxis. So we will look at some other options next week.

I get hives from stress and allergies too. Are you certain it is hives from the med or a coincident? Those are so miserable. I hope your physician countered the reaction with something and that your med works. If not- maybe a different one will work better for you. Be calm and cool.
