Nancy you are spot on. I don't eat gluten, red meat, dairy. I watch my sugar and have minimal pain. We are what we eat.
Altho I've read that one should avoid niteshade goods, I've continued to eat tomatoes and eggplants with no issues. For me, barley and citrus cause immediate RA flares. And overindulging in too much gluten (ie: pasta with garlic bread then cake for dessert) causes flares.
Hi Nancy - There's alot of research out there that states it's best to avoid sugars, dairy and gluten to start with to REDUCE the inflammation in your body for RA. IF you like fermented foods this is also an excellent item to add to your diet. There are MANY Anti-inflammatory diets out there. I'm a fan of the Terry Wahl's diet myself.

The point of a RA diet is to help your body heal and reduce the amount of inflammation in it. This in turn may help your meds work better. If you go to my page and check out my favorites, several weeks ago I looked at a bunch of RA diets and put together a cheatsheet that tells which foods we should eat and which ones to avoid from all of those diet programs.
Hi Nancy,
I have never had to give up any of food . I have bad RA. But food never came into play.
Shirley. Hugs
I feel a lot better when I eat less processed foods. I have given up most sugars not all. I did give up dairy and that helped the bloating and most digestive issues.
