Is pins/needles and pain a side effect of Simponi?
Shelly6, I have been taking Humira for the past 4 months. I am also still taking methotrexate. I think it’s maybe starting to work but I’m still struggling with knee pain which I’ve had for a long time. It appears that I have osteo arthritis as well as RA so I get confused about what is the cause of my pain. I have noticed a new symptom though since being on Humira, which is muscle cramps, especially the arch of my feet, which is frequent and painful.
Cherryberry,
Do you mind me asking what you are taking now in place of the Simponi and is it working?
I also have had 4 doses of Simponi. Shortly after my fourth dose I was also prescribed gabapentin for neuropathy. I did start with muscle and all over joint pain mainly at night and my arms and hands fall asleep based on what side I sleep on. The pain can sometimes be so bad I can barely turn over and it wakes me up. I was convinced that the gabapentin was causing it so I have been tapering off of it so I can see if it goes away. If it doesn’t then something else is causing it. You have now put a question in my mind could it be the Simponi. Are you on any other drugs besides Simponi? I was on methotrexate first and couldn’t tolerate it and then Leflunomide which is what I think caused the neuropathy so I went off that. Now I’m wondering if the Simponi could have caused that. I will let you know how I make out being off the gabapentin since that is the only other drug I am on in addition to the Simponi. Trying to figure out these drugs is a full time job and you have to be your own advocate. My pain is real and I want to desperately find something that works.
I was on Simponi for 2 years. I had constant pins and needles and numbness in my toes. I also had a strange vibration in my upper arm, from my bicep down to my elbow.
I mentioned it to my rheumy and she dismissed it as some sort of nerve damage. Strangely it disappeared when I stopped taking Simponi so I’m guessing maybe it was that.
