I have 2 cups of black coffee in the morning (I'm not on Methotrexate) the caffeine doesn't exasperate my RA. I am curious tho the study referenced was it black coffee being consumed? I know for me refined sugar is a huge trigger for inflammation and dairy can be too. So I avoid these as much as I am reasonably able.
I do abt 8 cups a day. My husband and I both enjoy it and it's a bonding type thing. It calms and relaxes or it can energize and cheer. We make it with bottled water bc chlorinated water kills the taste of coffee and tea making it taste flat and dirty. Sometimes I add a little creamer.
It sure helps clear my fog. And it's great to stimulate the bowels for regularity.
If it bothers your heart rate or blood pressure- get a beta blocker like I did. If coffee bugs you, exercise or housework would too. But I'd rather enjoy my coffee than anything else.
Look if I am wrong then I will acquiesce to the better study. But this is the only study done that is published in a medical journal. I drink 1 mug of coffee blonde veranda by Starbucks. I need caffeine to function through brain fog. I take both MTX and Xeljanz and my joints are so very stable.

- Polyphenols in Coffee: Coffee contains polyphenols, which are beneficial for RA symptoms. The Arthritis Foundation recommends drinking caffeinated coffee in moderation, defined as 1 to 2 cups a day
