Has anyone changes the way they eat, or food that they stay away from??? I heard that people with RA should stay away from certain foods, don’t know what certain foods? So I am looking for some easy meals for the day, that are good for my RA,

I am newly diagnosed (two weeks) so I’m not on any meds (yet), but I have been researching anti-inflammatory foods (lots of articles from links on this forum). I have eliminated peppers of all kinds, most cheeses, nightshades (tomatoes, white potatoes, eggplant), and stopped drinking wine. I was eating mostly gluten-free anyway, so I’ve continued that path. Now, granted, it’s only been a short time, but my RA hand and wrist pain has decreased. Is it because of the foods or is it because of the usual RA cycle of flare-up then easing of symptoms? Who knows, but I will take it! (And boyoboy, is it ever challenging to give up what I have given up (except eggplant, haha!). I look at it as ‘we had a good long run, all those foods and I, and I will treasure those memories, but now it’s time to knuckle down.’ I would agree with your doctor and see if anything seems to work for you. Eating healthy is always a good choice, at any rate. You go, girl!

For me any kind of refined sugar and that includes syrup and honey. I can eat fruit. I have read salt can be bad too. I eat a modified Mediterranean diet, low salt, lots of fresh produce home cooked. I use spices instead of salt. Avoid most processed foods, fried food and saturated fat. I eat whole grains and lean poultry. I am sensitive to wheat/gluten and allergic to milk, eggs, fish and some other things, so also avoid those. Some people feel nightshade foods make them worse. I try to limit nightshades, not sure it helps. Getting to a normal weight is important too. Some people recommend a BMI less than 23. Hope that helps. I take methotrexate and a biologic but so far no steroids or pain pills. Ice and heat help me and lots of sleep along with being careful to not over do it. I walk for exercise.

I hope you will go back and read an earlier post I made concerning my experience with RA and diet. (I am assuming you can do this on this site?) FOOD CHOICES HAVE ABSOLUTELY AFFECTED MY RA!!
I believe you have to be totally committed to making changes and most people don't want to put in the effort it takes. But I did! A whole food (nothing processed), plant based diet with no oil has changed my life. Check Google/Youtube for Clint Paddison and the Paddison Program if you're interested in one way to do this. After only 8 months of eating this way I am TOTALLY MEDICATION FREE after 23 years and have stamina and energy I had in my youth and I am now 69 years young. I began feeling results in less than 2 weeks. Changing my total way of eating was worth it to me to not be in constant, crippling pain and fatigue and dealing with medication side effects. I went from struggling to climb stairs, or grip anything or being unable to open my car door to doing yoga, running upstairs and playing pickleball and golf. I keep getting on a soapbox about this because I am so convinced through my own experience that people can start helping themselves regain their health!!! ❤️

I asked both my rheumatologist and a dietician if there were any foods that I should stay off and both of them told me there is no proof that certain foods should be avoided. They said if you feel that something works then go for it but I haven't found any difference in avoiding certain things. I do use unhomoginized milk as I feel that it is healthier.

Yes, I did try an elimination diet with a dietician at first. We also tried vegan, Mediterranean, and modified diets. None of them made a real difference to my RA. So for me, food is not an active issue/impact. Alcohol can be - so I generally don't drink. The biggest thing that I did find helpful is eating fresh foods, less processed, more homemade/bake seem to keep my body running better. I do try to manage my intake and move my body to maintain health and weight but fell back a few steps due to injuries the past two years. The injured/exercise/injured routine is getting really old.
