I have lost 20 pounds over 2 and a half months. Has anyone else lost a significant amount of weight due to their RA?

Members shared widely varied weight experiences with rheumatoid arthritis, with some losing weight unintentionally during flares or before diagnosis due to inflammation and loss of appetite, while others gained weight from medications, reduced activity, or lifestyle changes during treatment. Several members described intentional weight loss through dietary changes like cutting out gluten and dairy, following an anti-inflammatory diet rich in fruits and vegetables, or simply being more mindful of food intake to reduce joint stress, with one member successfully losing 80 pounds after diagnosis. A recurring theme was that weight fluctuations are common and individual with RA, and members encouraged monitoring changes closely with a rheumatologist to rule out other issues like thyroid problems, especially when weight loss is unintentional or concerning.

I did. And then when i got it under control it came back to normal. Inflammation can cause loss of appetite/weight loss

@A myRAteam Member I hadn't began any medications yet or even knew I had RA before i started losing weight. I took Celecoxib (Celebrex) for 7 days before i found out i was having an allergic reaction to it but still lost weight that week as well. I just started new medications yesterday. I have been keeping a log of weight i am losing and it has been scaring me because I'm not trying to lose.

I have lost weight when I tried to follow the so called RA diet. It was mostly eating fruits and vegetables and very low sugar diet. It is really hard to stay on the diet though.
