Hello,
I have been suffering from a flare in my hands off and on for the last several weeks. Today is especially bad in my right hand. It hurts to try making a fist. I started massaging my hand a few minutes ago and noticed the end of my thumb is visibly swollen, feels "tight" and is almost completely numb. Anyone else have similar experience?

I am in constant pain and inflammation. I have not been able to make a fist or stretch out my hands in such a long time, I can’t remember the last time I actually could. Stretching out my hands was something I really enjoyed doing. (You know, entwining your fingers together then bending them back in like a b ridge away from the body? It used to release so much tension. Now, I can’t even lace my fingers together.. :(
I’m nervous about the thought of a biologic and I don’t know if my insurance would cover it. I need to talk to my RHeum dr. Because I just don’t think this methotrexate is helping enough for my liking. I can’t open bottles (water, soda) I can’t hold the steering wheel for long periods of time. But, I worry about other medications and their side. Effects. I cannot massage my hands, they are too sensitive and tender. I am hopeful that my dr’s will find a better plan for me to fit my needs. Good luck to you. Advocate for your needs. :)

Yes - I won't deal with that so I searched for an orthopaedic who specializes in HANDS. I have had cortisone injections in my wrist and occasionally in the joints of my fingers. It works like a charm. Bite the bullet when injected because the outcome is worth it. I tried everything and the only treatment that brought down the swelling was the injection but see a HAND SPECIALIST.
