Members shared their experiences navigating methotrexate use during the coronavirus pandemic, with several receiving official shielding letters in the UK advising self-isolation through mid-August, while others reported conflicting guidance from their doctors about whether to continue or stop their medication. Several members described difficult personal decisions, including one who stopped methotrexate for three weeks only to experience a severe seven-week flare, with their doctor ultimately advising that staying on medication was safer since flaring increases inflammation and infection risk. A recurring theme was the frustration over inconsistent information, the challenge of balancing work pressures with health risks, and the emotional toll of making these decisions without clear official guidance.

Hi Moimoore. I too am on mtx and can't find any thing either! I'm not selfisolating as i don't tend to get colds or tummy bugs and my bloods range from above normal and dip into normal so i figure my immune system isn't being particularly compromised. I am being vigilant about hand washing etc.

I have had a second shielding letter now, taking me to mid Aug! Can go out for walk and thats it. Daughter got virus and I was main carer her children so I had contact. Stupidly came off Methotrexate for 3 weeks and then took me 7 weeks to feel fairly ok again! Told Gp as bloods sky high, told me better to stay on meds as flaring means more inflammation and prone to infection! U r right no clear info out there really!
