I’m starting methotrexate after just recently being diagnosed with Seronegative RA and I’m getting really nervous and scared of it. Does anyone have any advice or experiences (hopefully positive ones..) about when they started treatment?

Members shared mixed but largely reassuring experiences with methotrexate for rheumatoid arthritis, with many reporting that it effectively reduced pain and inflammation for years, though some experienced side effects like nausea, dizziness, and fatigue that often lessened over time or could be managed by taking the medication with food. Several members emphasized the critical importance of taking folic acid daily to minimize side effects, avoiding alcohol on medication days to protect the liver, and giving the drug time to work while staying in close contact with doctors to adjust dosages or add biologics if needed. A recurring theme was that everyone's body responds differently to RA medications, so while methotrexate works wonderfully for some and not at all for others, it's worth trying with an open mind and the understanding that there are many other treatment options available if it doesn't suit you.

On humera for about 7 months, not sure if it helps or not but side affects are not too bad. Do not want to start something new! Want to be on as few meds as possible. How is everybody doing with their meds? Love to read success stories!

Yes, I babe been taking methotrexate for 8 years. No problems with it and it was very effective in reducing my pain. I will stop taking it very soon though but only because it’s now not working so well.

Just be careful with alcohol while taking methotrexate as it will affect your liver and you will feel ill. A glass now and again won’t hurt though, just not on the day you take your metho.

Good luck Cherry

I have been on MTX since Dec 2018. I had so many side effects with little relief. However I started a supplement called Rhumate in addition to the folic acid and increase in the MTX which has helped alot. Just alow a day or 2 to recover from the MTX
