Members responded to a question about weight gain on Enbrel, with several pointing out that corticosteroids like prednisone and cortisone injections are more commonly associated with weight gain than Enbrel itself, and one member shared similar weight gain on Xeljanz that reversed after stopping the medication. The conversation shifted when a member asked about ankle surgery experiences, prompting others to share their own orthopedic journeys, including ankle replacements and hardware implants after fractures. A recurring theme was reassurance that addressing joint damage surgically leads to better long-term function, with recovery time depending largely on how well physical therapy progresses afterward.

Good luck on your surgery! I’ve had both replaced, think a shoulder is next ugh!

I gained weight on xeljanz. I’m off it now because of upcoming hip surgery, and have lost weight since then. So your weight gain may be due to the medications.

I have an steal bracket around my ankle because I shattered it. My ankle is bigger than the other. The alternative was not being able to walk. You will be better off getting this taken care of. Your down time is usually based on how well your therapy goes afterward. Good Luck and fast heal healing!
