I have Peroneal tendon tears in both ankles that the Orthopaedic surgeon said are normal...for an 80 year old...not a 51 year old. I haven’t injured my ankles but have been experiencing pain and swelling in my ankles and feet for some time that comes and goes. X-rays were normal but MRI showed the tears, swelling, Achilles tendinitis, plantar fasciitis (with tear with chronic tears in one), and in one of the ankles I have an osteochondral defect (bone is dying and separating). Request a Provider directory from your Insurance company & search for a new Rheumatologist. Good luck!
Your foot & ankle injury is probably not caused by RA but overuse or past trauma (bad sprains) Plantar fasciitis is usually from incorrect footwear, weight or standing on your feet. We also lose the fatty tissue on the heels of our feet as we age so it's really common.
I would find a really, really good podiatrist to check your footwear and possibly make custom orthotics. They can order steroid injections, but if you have sensitivity, I guess that is out of the question. I know I can't take Prednisone due to allergy but am OK w/Medrol, Celestone and dexamethasone. Ultrasound-guided injections are done at HSS or NYU in NYC. I work in NYC, and there is a Dr. Thomas Novella, who is an honest & fabulous podiatrist. Only problem is that he doesn't take any insurance. They are also doing shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis, and it seems to help many people. (again, I work for an orthopedist)
So sorry you had to tolerate such poor bedside manners. Feel free to replace that Doctor. You shouldn't have to put up with that! Be blessed!🙌
RA effects everything in your body & makes it age more quickly. Things like osteoporosis & cataracts don't normally happen until your a senior citizen but ,if you have RA it can happen in your 40's . I had to have cataract surgery about age 43 because of RA. If you can find another rheumatologist, get a second opinion.
