Dentist Appointment Trigger?

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

I am still very new to this, I have not yet been officially diagnosed, I do not see the Rheum until the end of January. My acute symptoms started in September and while I am waiting to get in to see the Rheum my GP prescribed Celebrex. The Celebrex has been helping with the pain and inflammation, but doesn't get rid of it completely. They have upped the dosage to the max dose just before Christmas. I tried a couple of times not taking the medication, to see if I had magically been cured, but was… read more

Hi Bells73. The dental chair isn't super friendly for my body either. I said this to my GP who said, "Well of course. You have ACTIVE RA!" Be kind to yourself and take a deep breath. Hopefully the rheumatologist will have some additional information for you. Seronegative doesn't mean no RA as you probably already know. There are 54 million people with some kind of arthritis diagnosis but apparently only 1.3-1.5 million with RA and many different types. You might consider keeping a calendar w/ triggers and symptoms ahead of your appointment. Hopefully the first appt will include xrays and a medical history so that you can get some answers. Please let us know how you are doing. We're not glad you feel bad, but glad you are here so that you aren't alone.

Stress can, yes.
You're on a med that helps with pain but it isn't a med that will control your RA or Flares. Hope they get you going in the right direction!
Hugs and prayers.

I am sorry to say that anything that causes stress can serve as a trigger. It doesn't matter how common a situation it is. Also, as mariefloyd stated, the dental chairs are not friendly to our bodies. I can never get comfortable in them. Sorry you are going through this. I truly hope you get some answers at the end of the month. Hugs...

It doesn't take much to trigger a RA flare up.

As I said, my GP prescribed the Celebrex, only to get me by until I can see the Rheum. She expected that I would be in within 2 weeks, but it's actually going to be over 2 months. The Celebrex is working well enough for the time being.
