I have had tinnitus long before developing RA and can always tell when a flare-up is coming by the increased sound level. Has anyone else experience this or a similar reaction?
My Tinnitus increases during a flare along with a rash near the ear and neck with the ear that has the ring.. I have ring unilateral but lately I am begin ing to experience a ring in my good ear too but only briefly thank God. When the rash dies down so too does my tinnitus, when rash increases so too does the ringing .. the ring is always present to some degree. I have no other environmental factors in my background to account for tinnitus.
I'm not sure I have had a flare up yet. But something else odd is that around the time I noticed something was wrong (RA symptoms), I developed a second tone. The first, which I have had as long as I remember is not too loud or too unpleasant. Like crickets singing a few hundred feet away. The new tone sounds like a large diesel engine idling at a low volume. Something like the engine on a large ferry. I drove me crazy at first because I thought that the new sound was coming from a motor in the house🤍💛.
Reading your profile I identified with another aspect --"that day". I've had arthritis symptoms since my late 30s and recognized arthritic flares starting at age 42.. they'd drift in and drift out sometimes being absence for years. All in all I had a pretty good life up until just before my 60th birthday when I had my "that day", a massive flare that affected many vital functions like my heart rate (I was in tachycardia, heart rate exceeded 100 bpm even at rest, and very high if I was doing something), breathing (had shortness of breath, could not even say a sentence without gasping for air yet alone activity) ( and kidney function (I was dehydrated) leaving me incapacitated for a few months because I didn't have the energy (cardiac capacity, breathing etc) to do the simplest things, household chores were even a challenge. I lost 20l bs in about 12 weeks and all muscle. Oddly, during this time I didn't have one arthritic joint, it was like I didn't have arthritis at all - that was striking to me. After a few months, all reversed , and it took me another 9 months to regain strength and mass to enjoy activities I once enjoyed. Today I still have energy, good body weight again, good heart rate, good breathing but several worsening arthritic joints along with unilateral (one ear )tinnitus and a bit of arthritis in that jaw joint in the morning that gives me like aTMJ click when I wake up.
