We do not have light duty where I work. I have a very physical job. I plan on staying until next year at this time, if I can. I'm on FMLA, which helps a lot with going in late and missing entire days.p
I was an Human Resource Specialist for 10 years for the state of Texas and retired from that job. Depending on the requested accommodation and the company and if you signed off on the Essential functions of your current job. My advice is to contact the company Human Resource department and then be prepared for lots of documentation from your doctor. Lisa was correct on the other route and that is to take FMLA but be aware their is only an allotted amount of days available in one year for FMLA One you have used your allottment you are sustible to being layed off A good way to extend FMLA Is to use it on a part-time basis. Again, all requires lots of documentation on your doctors part. Another problem I had was doctors saying the could not release that information b/c of HIPPA While the employer does have the right to this information (which some doctors do not believe so) you cam alleviate that problem by telling the doctor to release the information to you, which they are required by Federal Standards to do. And then give it to your employer. Wish I could help you more but employers have their own specifics regarding accomodations and usually are not mandated by the Federal Gov't.
Good luck.
I am learning the same. Was hoping others might have had better luck or tips. Sorry you are going through it!
Thanks. I am finding a lot of the same answers and I am sad about it.
We do not have light duty on my job either. My recent diagnosis has prompted me to take retirement sooner than I wanted. FMLA would of been the only option if I choose hang on.
