Morning, I am coming down with my first cold/flu since being diagnosed with RA, I am taking Metho., Hydroxychloroquine and Sulfasalazine, all which surprise the immune system. My doc says anytime get sick to call her right away due to the immune system, so I will give her a call, but just wondering what most folks do. Treat it as I always have, over counter meds. and rest.......wondering if there are any suggestions. How does one fight a cold/flu with little to no immune system.
For colds, I just take over the counter meds that are appropriate for the symptoms - Mucinex works great. If I feel like have an infection like bronchitis, I go see my GP and get a prescription for antibiotics.
Just remember, that if you are taking antibiotics, do not take any of your RA meds.
First off I will say when the doctor told me to come in for something so simple I felt stupid. So I am glad you are listening. They say to come in because a cold can turn into a serious infection within hours when ur on those meds. If your not careful they can go septic so u want and need to keep on top of this.
Honey and lemon are really good but don't have too much ginger. Its not well known but ginger with its many good things also boosts the immune system and that's really bad for you. Otherwise all i can say is nature will take its course and we do our best to survive. I hope you feel better soon.
Chicken soup with a dash of lemon juice! Helps and is really good!
Ginger tea with lemon and some honey and lots of rest. I hope you feel better soon.
I had a bad cold, missed a couple days of work. No fever, called doctor for cough med prescription, pharmacy was out. Told to get over counter medicine. Found Mucinex DM cough and cold tablets in my medicine cabinet. Started taking. Cough has subsided considerably. Back at work now.
