My pain doc has said this may be an option for me. Or "burning" the nerves, as si joint injections only last a short time for me.
What is L3-L5 laminectomy? I have a degenerative disc. At L5. I also have sciatica . I have numbness down from my right hip, leg & foot. I now have it on my left side. I do stretches for the sciatica. I do water therapy, chiropractor & acupuncture. The combination has helped alot!!!!
I've been dealing with this low back pain for a couple of years and had the L3-L5 laminectomy in Jan 2016, (turned from a 1 inch, 3 hr op, into a 4 in, 8 hr op) and while it helped with the pins/needles and numbness in my feet, and incontinence, it also showed where the actual problem is located - synovitis in hips and si joint, as well as si dysfunction and instability. Makes everything from walking, to turning over during sleep a completely painful experience. Have had my legs, hips go out from under me numerous times, so now I get to walk (very carefully) with a cane. Better than a walker, but I sure miss going and doing.
The neurologist I see for hip/si injections and all pain meds seems to think I may need to go with si joint fusion and I was wondering what experience anyone else had. Esp with the "stability" issue and how much loss of function they had.
yes, @A myRAteam Member, I fractured my SI joint before I had low back pain and sciatica from a collapsed disc in 2003, had fusion of L4 and L5 with laminectomy. Then I tripped in 2013 and by 2016 I had another fusion with laminectomy of L3-5 from a pressed nerve from a slipped disc, no sciatica. I still have pain, but not the unbearable nerve pain. It's not the SI joint like you, but it can turn into a domino effect (so I've been told).
Tell me about it. I don't want to complain but it hurts like He--. My Dr tells me I need to lose weight but with the prednisone and not being able to move much. That's why i'm going to try water aroebics
Have you had your si joint checked? If it is the problem an easy way to tell is to have the injections into your si joints; if it helps, that's the problem. As for the laminectomy, that cleared alot of the narrowing in my spine which was crushing my nerves, which caused most of the other problems. I probably have that all down my spine, going by the symptoms I experience. But, you know doctors; "let's deal with what is bothering you now, "
