Members responded to a question about a red, swollen rash with lumps under the skin, with several pointing out that this description doesn't match typical rheumatoid nodules, which are hard bumps that form on joints like knuckles, elbows, and feet and don't come and go. Many members shared their own experiences with nodules, describing them as grape-sized, difficult to hide, and sometimes requiring removal, with some noting that Methotrexate can cause them and that they may grow back even after surgical removal. A recurring theme was the importance of seeing a doctor to rule out other conditions like cellulitis or ganglion cysts, with members offering support and encouragement while awaiting the upcoming appointment.

Definitely have had nodules - had a large one removed from my elbow and after 3 years is starting to grow back (was told that might happen) Methotrexate can cause them in some people apparently. Nodules do not come and go, that would likely be a ganglion. Neither are a big deal unless they hurt or are interfering with tendons. Worth asking your Rheumy tho. Good luck

I have nodules all over my outer arms. If I stretch my skin you can really see them.
