Members rallied around someone struggling with weight gain and fatigue from RA flares, sharing an abundance of practical strategies and emotional support. Several members recommended accessible exercise options including YouTube yoga videos (especially Yoga with Adrienne and yogimelbourne), Classical Stretch on PBS, chair yoga programs, Silver Sneakers classes covered by insurance, and gentle stretching learned through physical therapy. A recurring theme was the anti-inflammatory diet approach many found helpful, with members suggesting eliminating gluten, dairy, and sugar while adding turmeric, tart cherry juice, pineapple, and bromelain supplements, though several acknowledged the emotional difficulty of restrictive eating and the importance of finding a sustainable balance that doesn't sacrifice quality of life.

This isn't yoga, but its stretching and works for core and balance. It helps me more than anything I've tried. Low impact but makes a huge difference. It's called Classical Stretch. It's on Directv channel 8 NPT but you can also order seasons and get dvd's. It's by a former ballerina named Miranda Esmonde-White. She focuses on different parts of the body each day. I DVR and then use the one's as needed. I walk and that helps too, but just like other readers have posted, non gluten- no sugar - dairy - soda's etc helps me allot. I also drink pure 100% organic Tart Black Cherry Juice. 3 TSP - 3 X's per day. Cherry Juice is great for inflammation. Also take Tumeric/Cucurmin 2 capsules a day. Great natural pain reliever.

Well, i went to a naturopathic doc and she told me to get off all gluten (bread, wheat) dairy (milk, butter, cheese) and sugar. And yes, i did get better, but life was not fun, i love food, and not eating great stuff made me very depressed, but did help my pain. I usually do the diet for a few weeks, and then blow it for a week of fun eating and then pay for it with pain for a week, and start diet again.

It's a vicious cycle of RA Pain, being too tired to exercise & diet. I do several slow, concentrated stretches that I learned in P/T. I learned them, paid attention to proper form & now just do them at home myself because I couldn't afford p/t. I've had 4 foot surgeries so they are done laying down or sitting in a chair. I lost 54 lbs & now have added light 2 lb hand weights that I do every other day. If I'm having a bad Flare or weather is causing a bad pain day, I don't do them. As far as diet, I have a Gluten Sensitivity which means I can eat SOME things with gluten with no problem. The biggest things (which were HARD) was to wean myself off bread, butter & pasta. I ate high protein like chicken with rice or shrimp with rice. I season things with Mrs. Dash. I also ate the Uncle Bens precooked pinto beans & rice that you cook in the microwave for 90 seconds. My exercises are stretches for my back, leg lifts, an exercise called The Clam, shoulder rolls. Again, I can't put weight on my bad foot so I do these laying down or sitting. It's still an every day struggle. I just started a new med & it put 15 lbs on me. I also have Cushing's Disease from the years of steriods. I try to stay away from steriods. I'd suggest to look Online for Prevention magazine that offers many exercises that may help you & Arthritis Foundation magazine offer exercises. You need to check with your doctor & don't think you need to do a workout like at a gym, you're not. It's hard but when you notice your arms getting toned or your clothes are fitting looser, it will encourage you.
