I am about to start the methotrexate injections Wednesday. Very nervous and hear that they'resome very unwanted side effects. How adverse are they and what should I be prepared for ? Has anyone had the side effect of hair loss ?

Members shared mixed experiences with starting methotrexate injections, with some describing side effects like nausea, fatigue, hair thinning, and headaches during the first few weeks, while others reported zero side effects and excellent results over months or even years. Several members emphasized the importance of taking folic acid daily as prescribed, managing nausea with medication when needed, and avoiding alcohol to prevent worsening symptoms. A recurring theme was reassurance not to let worry about potential side effects overshadow the fact that everyone responds differently, and many people tolerate methotrexate very well with proper support from their rheumatologist.

I have been on methotrexate for one month now. Please do not allow yourself to get worried and worked up over possible side effects. I worried myself sick when I first got diagnosed last month. I have had zero side effects- absolutely none. I take folic acid everyday and biotin to prevent hair loss.

I have been on MTX injections for three years now and, hand on heart, I have never had any side effects with them. Sometimes people listen to all the horror stories and get worked up with worry. Two friends of mine are also on the injections and they haven't had any side effects either.i hope all goes well for you. Hugs.

I have taken Methotrexate tablets along with Folic Acid for 4 years Maybe a slight thinning of hair, but but noticeable. I have minimal flare ups but nothing serious.. Am very pleased with my rheumatologist and the treatment he has ordered.

I started weekly injections last month. Nausea, being a bum for 24-48 hours after and some hair loss are my things. Feel fortunate that I had think hair to begin with. I wish you all the best! No side effects and quick relief for pain. I'm still waiting for the pain relief. The nearly neon caution yellow in the vials is dreadful to me and getting to Sunday night when I inject is like watching sand in an hourglass. Learning to live it up without drinking in the non nausea moments though!

don't work yourself up about possible side effects. Not everyone gets them.
