I'm just curious if anyone experiences long periods of fatigue with their RA medicines? I currently am taking 1000 mg of sulfasalazine, 250 mg hydroxychloraquine a day, and 0.6 ml methotrexate, 50 mg of enbrel a week the fatigue has taken over my life to the point I don't want to get out of bed! Is there anything I can take to help with the fatigue or some thing I have to live with?

Members connected over the exhausting fatigue caused by rheumatoid arthritis medications, particularly methotrexate, with many sharing that they plan rest days around injection schedules and often spend those afternoons napping or reading. Several members offered practical strategies that have helped them manage fatigue, including getting vitamin D levels checked and supplementing if low, aiming for 9 hours of sleep, incorporating light exercise, drinking green tea or energy drinks, and adding B vitamins or pantothenic acid for an energy boost. A recurring theme was the importance of addressing both physical and emotional health, as uncontrolled RA and depression often contribute to overwhelming tiredness, with many encouraging the original poster to discuss medication adjustments, mental health support, and vitamin testing with their doctor.

My doctor checked my vitamin d Levels. Mine were low so now I take additional Vitamin D daily. It helps some.

Try not to schedule any outings for that day and find I spend the afternoon reading or napping on my bed .

Oh my dear yes! I always thought it was my thyroid but since I don't have thyroid issues anymore. I started realizing that RA and conjunction with my meds make me sleepy and tired a day or two afterwards. When it's my weekly medicine the day after I can sleep all day

Thank you @A myRAteam Member I did schedule an appointment with a psychologist because I thought I was having anxiety issues, I start seeing her in 2 weeks I might bring up the depression because the fatigue came about the time of my diagnosis. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago and they haven't got my RA under control yet, they keep changing my meds some days are pretty horrible as far as pain.

Fatigue is one of the worst side effects of RA. For me, getting some exercise helps with the fatigue. Also, I need around 9 hours of sleep. Is your RA under control? If it is then you may be experiencing depression which is contributing to your fatigue. You may want to look at antidepressants also. Good luck!!
