How long does it take for Methotrexate to be effective? I just took my second dose and I'm wondering if it's like plaquenil and it takes awhile to work?

Members shared widely varied experiences with how long methotrexate takes to work, with timelines ranging from four weeks to six months, and some finding no relief at all even after several months of use. Several members described needing combination therapy to see results, pairing methotrexate with medications like Plaquenil, Enbrel, Remicade, or prednisone, with one member emphasizing that patience is essential since these drugs need time to build up in the system. A recurring theme was the importance of giving the medication at least three months before deciding if it works, understanding that everyone responds differently, and being prepared for possible side effects like hair loss and brittle nails while waiting for improvement.

Yes, hang in there! It took three months before I felt any improvement. Had to supplement with malaria med, prednisone and Vimovo anti flam. After 3 months, it started to work Today I only take Tramezac once a day and Vimovo occasionally but still the methotrexate. It does work for me but it has side affects i.e. hair very brittle and breaking and falling out and nails a mess! It is worth being patient though!
