I started on methotrexate last August. The first week I took 3 tablets once a week, then was supposed to increase to 6 next week. My rhuemy had also given me folic acid 1mg to take every day of the week while on methotrexate. Was told it takes a while to adjust to methotrexate and to see any results. I was so nauseous after that 1st dose I only took 3 the 2nd week too. On 3rd and 4th week I took 6 and still felt miserable for 3-4 days after each dose - severe fatigue and nausea. I finally called my Dr. after that 1st month due to continued nausea and was told to increase the folic acid to 3mg a day. That was a lifesaver! Made a huge difference by the next week's dose. Didn't see any real effect on RA symptoms till at least 2 months. Then I kept getting better till improving affect seemed to stabilize around 4th month. I was told to take methotrexate in the evening so it takes effect while you are asleep and you won't notice side effects as much. I take mine after dinner, it seems to reduce side effects if not taken on empty stomach. I often still feel a bit tired the next day, but only rarely have any nausea now and if I do, it is very mild and brief. So for me, 1 day of possibly feeling just a bit "off" is definitely worth the other 6 good days a week :) I've been able to stop my daily prednisone and only use it for flares. which is another very positive factor for me.
I suggest you let your Dr. know how it's affecting you, ask about possibly increasing folic acid, and really try to get thru the initial 6-12wk adjustment period before you make any decisions. I have read that methotrexate injections cause much less nausea than oral dose, so keep that in mind too. Best of luck :)

yeah have them to put you on Zofran I have been on it for 2 and 1/2 years and it still does that to me

I couldn't take it due to the dizziness and nausea. Hang in there.

I take methotrexate injection every week been on it a while and found that if I eat a good meal 40 minutes or so before I take it it doesn't make me sick 99% of the time please be careful with this because I only have 60% of my kidneys left from this medicine God bless & be safe

It made me nauseous so my doctor changed me to another treatment.
