I have been on many self-injection medications and I have never ever been a fan of needles. It seems that with my new medication I become even more anxious right before I have to self-inject then I ever have been before on other medications. What do you do to calm yourself down before you take your medications? Do you set up rewards? Listen to music? Any help would be gratly appreciated!

If you have to give a "subq" injection, and you have belly fat that you can pinch between 2 fingers, that is another place to give subcutaneous injections.
I've done the leg site, the arm site for subq injections, but the belly is my favorite site.

I typically ice the area I'm giving the injection in. Also, i find my legs to be the least painful area for injection.

I suffer from a lot of anxiety relating to my enbrel injections because I find them quite painful and we recently figured out that I'm having a pretty significant side effect from it and still haven't been able to change meds yet. The most helpful thing for that anxiety has been my boyfriend, he reminds me that I'll feel better if I take it and he'll always hug me after. It helps that there's no judgement getting tearful over it. The methotrexate injections are easier to manage because the needle is smaller and its not painful at all.

I envision in my mind that I am punching the disease in the face every time I inject.

I have the same problem. I do a kind of quick meditation before I inject. Just deep breathe and tell myself it'll be over very quickly. Psych myself up. It works! :)

I have never been bothered by needles in fact I always watch when giving blood but I have noticed that I'm starting to have the same problem. Now I just have my Echo Dot blast my jams & I dance around for a lil bit til the anxiety subsides & it seems to make it alot easier! I hope this helps for you💚
