How can you explain to your loved ones the severity of the pain and that it's there all the time even when you don't say anything and that you don't say anything because you just don't want them to think you're just complaining

Members opened up about the deeply isolating challenge of explaining invisible, chronic pain to loved ones who may not fully grasp its constant presence or severity. Several members shared practical strategies, including comparing RA pain to how the flu feels every single day, inviting family to medical appointments or support group events, and sharing educational resources from the Arthritis Foundation or Pinterest to help bridge the understanding gap. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of feeling misunderstood or dismissed even by those closest to them, with many members acknowledging that while true understanding may never be possible without living the disease, patience, honesty, and gentle persistence can help loved ones adjust to this new reality.

Hi Tamiko: Welcome to the Group. It's a great community where you will be welcomed and can ask anything :) First, having arthritis sucks! But you are not alone here. You are part of a large community of people who will listen. I've had arthritis since I was 2 1/2 - way bf the internet - now there are sooo many amazing resources to reach out to anytime you feel stressed, alone, sad, happy, if you have a question, need a referral. Arthritis is a tough diagnosis bc not everyone understands - people still think only your grandma or grandpa get it or your just complaining. There will always be those people who don't understand what you're going thru. But, one way to help people get a glimpse into your world is to invite them to an appointment. Have them spend some time with you at a meet and greet event sponsored by the AF or similar organization. Invite them into your daily life - let them "walk in your shoes". None of us truly understand what another person feels or goes thru until we get a glimpse of what their life is really like. True friends and family know us best - it might take them some time to know the new version of you, but they will come around. Just be open and honest. Ask for help. Be patient with them. Take time to explain how you feel, what you are experiencing and if you need help. Remember, you are changing, but it's a change for them, too.

I have had this disease a long time, the only person who understands my pain at some level is my husband. Recently two of my older sisters sat by me and told me about there arthritic pain. I didn't say a word I still don't know what to say to these people. I am in pain, stiff and fatigued from the time I get up to the time I go to bed. They think you are exaggerating.

You cwn give them somethingvto read about it. Unfortunately, people can rude even family. Some just don't want to understand or care. I stopped talking about it. I just tell them I feel bad. Talking and explaining it over and over can be so draining.

Believe it or not, I found a lot of information on Pinterest if they are truly interested, sit them down with their iPhones and let them read. Tamiko you're not alone. This stuff truly stinks.
