That is how my ra started. It is carpal tunnel from the swelling in your wrists and arms. Hand and arm braces while you sleep work wonders!
Lol, I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only cookoo RA gal out there. I also dangle my legs and arms over the side of the bed. Just makes my hands, elbows, shoulders and hips, legs and feet feel so much better. Lol when I was in hospital my doctor and nurses kept tucking my arms and legs under the sheet and iI'd just pop them out again. They did think I was a bit strange. Loved their expressions. Seriously tho really helps me feel better and stretches some of the stiff out.
To be sure, check with your doctor. I have carpal tunnel from years of medical transcription work, but mine is in the first two fingers and thumb. There are a lot of things that it could be.
I know this sounds crazy but I lie on my side on my bed and dangle my arms over the side of the bed. It helps tingles and def keeps pain and stiffness down in the morning when I wake. Must be a blood flow thing..but it works for me. I know I change positions in the night but if I wake up I try to do the side thing again. I know kooky but so is RA!!!
Ive already had carpral tunnel surgery in both hands. 25 yrs ago..I was told tunnels are clear....then I was told I had pinched nerve in neck...no pain in neck or shoulders....then I was told (all specialists) trigger finger thumb tendon out of tunnel....and then RA needless to say it happens periodically and I give up!!!!! lol
