The doc can draw fluid out of those cysts, Terri. I had one that burst behind my right knee and turned black and blue for awhile. There is a lot of scar tissue there now, so they don't think it will come back. Some people actually have the cysts surgically removed, but they frequently come right back. My rheumatologist told me no surgeries for me, unless life saving. I know how painful those cysts can be. I use ice on my knees from time to time. The relief is temporary, but it does work. I have OA in my knees now caused by the inflammation of RA, they say. I see an orthopedic doc who injects my knees with Orthovisc when need be. Hope this helps!

I've had two. Both eventually burst of their own accord...which was NOT fun, the pain brought me to my knees and I hurt so much I couldn't move for about 15 minutes. Any medic I've spoken to said draining it won't help. After all, the cyst is from excess fluid on the knee. Not too many places to go! As for pain relief, I usually use ice as it numbs the area. If you can't get relief perhaps it's time to get a second opinion?

I have bakers cysts behind both knees, painful at times. If anyone has suggestions on how to deal with this, I would be very grateful to hear it. I have tried ice and heat, nothing helps.

Yes, they are squishy, soft to the touch. Hope you arnt getting them.Sometimes they are no bother at all, but they can be very painful. Hugs!1
