Fatigue

A myRAteam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone know what causes the fatigue other than not being able sleep at night due to pain? It seems like I can fall asleep at the drop of a hat during the day and I'm sick of wanting to stay home and just sleep.

RA is a disease where your own body attacks itself. The fatigue comes from you having to fight so hard everyday to stay well. It doesn't matter if I can't sleep or I sleep a ton, the fatigue is just part of the disease. Unfortunately : (

I think it's just the nature of the RA Beast to be exhausted. Don't forget, RA is your body attacking itself, and that's "work". I think that's primarily the reason for the severe exhaustion. Most of the drugs that I'm on for the RA say they cause tiredness also. It's very very very hard to NOT feel tired lol. No matter how much sleep I get, I'm still exhausted.

RA has fatigue as a symptom. Some of the meds cause fatigue. I have the insomnia from pain and from other health issues. I have 52% sleep efficiency. Or had. Not sure what it is now, but still not great. I have narcolepsy, which causes excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, insomnia, automatic behavior, cognitive difficulties, memory issues. I am on a CPAP now for sleep apnea and sleep hypoxemia (breath shallow and slow when asleep). I am on oxygen while asleep for the same reason. I am still fighting insurance to get on a sleep med that will help with sleep and with my cataplexy, and getting sleep at night will help with the daytime sleepiness issue as well. Called Xyrem.. When I finally get to have it, I will have my first restful, full nights sleep in a bazillion years. Okay, maybe only 35 yrs, but still.. Yeah.. Insomnia sucks.
