Members shared deeply personal experiences about attempting to stop their RA medications in favor of natural approaches, with the overwhelming consensus being that discontinuing disease-modifying drugs led to serious consequences including permanent joint damage, nodules, and dangerous complications. Several members described helpful complementary approaches they use alongside their medications, including elimination diets, apple cider vinegar, acupuncture, essential oils, cannabis for pain, and eating fresh foods without preservatives, noting these can help with inflammation and symptoms but cannot stop disease progression. A recurring theme was the importance of staying on prescribed medications to prevent irreversible damage while being open to natural supplements and lifestyle changes as additions rather than replacements, always clearing alternative treatments with doctors first.

I only eat fresh food..meaning I don't eat any food with preservatives or dyes. I only use pot for pain..Pot has literally saved my life.

Had a food-allergy test.. Stopped eating everything on the list (its a long one!) Lost 40 lbs! Also lost ALOT of the pain!!! Worked for me for about 4 years! Expensive diet! I still make all of my own breads- The food allergies can change in about 6 months. Some go away, and others appear. Its a lot of work, but it works in the beginning..

Hi Marlene i recently went off all my meds mainly off Humria n methotrexate. Was on them bout a year. In that year I had nothing but complications. In and out of the hospital had a small fall which caused a huge hematoma even the dr at the hospital never saw anything like that before actually went to 2 different hospitals neither one had ever seen anything that size. They had no idea what to do so they sent me home. On top of that it was on my rt side of my buttock so i walked around with this for 3 weeks never was in do much pain in my life!! The blood started travling up my spine down my leg went to Rheum Dr he immeditly sent me over to a surgeon n he could not beleive the hospitals let me leave he said it was reaction from the humria n stop it now. He didnt even put me in the hospitsl said he felt so bad for me so he opened it up n drained it. He said i ruptured an artery thats why the blood was traveling up my spine he said i was lucky cuz i could have died from a blood clot. After it healed my rheum put back on humria mind you for this whole year all i did was throw up loose my hair most likely from methorexate. Then had a seizure had to have a cardiac cath and theres more. My point is to my these meds are toxic and they say usually if you have a reaction to one most likely you will hsv one with the other meds. Now not everyone hss such severe reactions and most people do well. Just my opinion i will not put these meds back in my body. So after my long story LOL i have decieded to go more natural route. Accupuncture, vitamins , i take Brags Apple Cider vinager n things like that do research i did alot of it also going to try cutting gluetin and sugar from my diet. These things will not slow RA progression but they do help with inflamation.you have to be your own advocate when it comes to this. Well anyway good to you.

Melissa-
I've been doing ongoing research for the last 9 years! There is, in my mind, a definite link to gut health and R.A., and a lot of autoimmune diseases! Even autism! Eliminating gluten and cassien are a start, but I suspect that a lot of these diseases are related to GMO's Yay Monsato! Many of the pesticides are used to kill insects because they attack the insects' stomach lining... wonder what they think they're doing to human guts?? A lot of antibiotics will also erode the intestines, causing food particles to leak through the intestinal wall and go directly into the bloodstream.

No problem, I will caution you on Plaquenil (sp?) It blurred my vision really bad. I quit that one quick and my Rheumy moved some meds around. Good luck!
