Members shared their experiences with elbow pain from rheumatoid arthritis, with many describing pain on the inside of the elbow, constant aching, and significant loss of range of motion, including some who can no longer fully straighten their arms. Several members discussed their treatment approaches, including cortisone, dietary changes, warm water exercise, Orencia infusions (which one member credited with restoring arm mobility), radial head excision surgery, and the frustrating reality that elbow replacement is often denied to younger patients due to poor structural support and high failure rates. A recurring theme was the physical and emotional toll of adapting to permanent changes, learning to use the other arm for daily tasks, and continuing to search for relief through heat, ice, topical rubs, and pool therapy despite exhaustion and discouragement.

About 20 years ago, my elbow pain was so severe that I had a radial head excision on my elbow. Pain went away but, I lost significant range of motion.

... Come to think of it, I had a big nodule on my left elbow... When I went on cortisone and quit eating things I shouldn't, and found the strength to get out and exercise in a 92-degree pool, it slowly went away- I,m not so lucky this time! Keep trying to make it to the pool, but am so exhausted, I'm lucky to make it to the grocery-store!

Over the years the arthritis has basically "rotted" my elbow. The only thing that can be done is a replacement and all doctors refuse to replace an elbow on a young (52 yrs) patient. There isn't a good structure in your elbow to support the replacement and therefore if you replace it, and use it, it quickly breaks down. Ugh.

Mine has hurt off and on for decades. I have lost some range of motion too. Learned to eat and wipe left handed. Right one now hurts, aches. Heat, ice acetaminophen, aspirin, rubs. Don’t know what to do now.
