Yes, neuropathy in the feet can absolutely be connected to RA. Between 10% and 20% of people with RA experience symptoms outside their joints, and peripheral neuropathy — nerve damage that causes sensations like pins and needles, numbness, or burning pain — is one of them. There are a few reasons why RA can lead to foot neuropathy:

- Nerve entrapment — Swelling and joint damage from RA can compress nearby nerves, such as the nerve running along the inside of the ankle (tarsal tunnel syndrome)
- Inflammation — RA-related inflammation can reduce blood flow to nerves, causing damage over time
- Anti-CCP antibodies — These immune proteins, common in RA, have been linked to a higher risk of peripheral neuropathy
- RA medications — Some treatments, including leflunomide and certain anti-TNF-alpha therapies, have been associated with neuropathy as a side effect A myRAteam member described it well: "Your feet are numb to feeling, yet there is awful nerve pain." If new numbness, tingling, or weakness develops in the feet, it's worth bringing up with a doctor sooner rather than later — catching it early can make a real difference in managing symptoms.
