Members connected over the shared experience of finger locking and knuckle stiffness, with many describing trigger finger, tendon nodules, and swelling affecting multiple fingers as common struggles alongside RA. Several members shared helpful strategies including oval-8 finger braces, compression gloves, ginger massage, hand exercises from an occupational therapist, and joint injections, while some mentioned hand surgeries that brought lasting relief. A recurring theme was that RA often brings unexpected complications, and leaning on community support and medical specialists helps members navigate the ongoing challenges.

Yes, I get trigger fingers on most of my fingers on my right hand and occasionally one on my left hand. Since I’ve been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, I’ve had two hand surgeries. One to release the tendon on my right middle finger that had triggered and I developed carpal tunnel on my right wrist and thumb and the surgery on that was a rough one. It took six months for the carpal tunnel pain to subside.
I am almost convinced that having RA along with Sjogren’s disease, I could wake up with horns.LOL

I have been experiencing this issue with both thumbs for a few months or so now but it's definitely worse on the right which is extremely painful at times & I have purchased thumb wrist splints which have really been helping but now I'm not able to fully bend my right thumb anymore which is super frustrating. My Rheumatologist says this is due to inflammation but doesn't really have any other suggestions at this time. 🙄

Osteoarthritis can also cause swelling of the joints in the hands. Both RA and OA have similar symptoms. However, if you are in RA remission than it is more than likely osteoarthritis. Trigger finger usually associated with 1 finger locking then you move to unlock that finger.
