On what medicines you are taking

I have no help really Gail but the over the counter stuff hot and cold packs. Iβm sorry youβre in so much pain. My doctor has never given me pain meds but he has prescribed Medrol dose pack for those times Iβm in a painful flare. I only have had to depend on it once as I thought I had pneumonia and had obligations in another state. So I took it to get by until I could get to the Dr. hoping you feel better soon.

So sorry to hear your hands are hurting β that's one of the most frustrating parts of RA since we use our hands for literally everything. The good news is there are several things that may help ease the pain.
Here are some at-home options worth trying:
- Heat or cold therapy β soak hands in warm water or apply ice to swollen areas
- Paraffin wax baths β many myRAteam members say this feels amazing and takes the edge off
- Compression gloves β especially helpful during the day or overnight, worn for at least 8 hours to be effective
- Over-the-counter topical gels β options like arnica gel or CBD salve (where legal) have helped some myRAteam members Gentle hand exercises can also help reduce stiffness and pain over time. Some good ones to try include:
- Finger touches β touch each fingertip to your thumb one at a time
- Fist and release β slowly make a fist, then open and extend your fingers
- Wrist rotations β gently rotate your wrists in circles
During a flare, keep exercises shorter and gentler β don't push through sharp pain. It's really important to let your rheumatologist know how much pain you're in. They may recommend splints, adjust your medications, or refer you to an occupational therapist who can create a personalized plan to protect your joints and improve function.
