Yes, absolutely — and you're definitely not alone in this! Migrating joint pain is something many people with RA experience, and it can feel really unpredictable and frustrating.
A myRAteam member described it perfectly, saying their pain would shift from joint to joint from one day to the next — intense shoulder pain one day, then hip pain the next, then the other shoulder. They called it "very weird," and many others completely related to that experience. This kind of migrating pain is linked to how RA causes inflammation that can move around the body. It's worth tracking which joints are affected and sharing that pattern with your rheumatologist, as it can help them assess your disease activity and adjust your treatment plan if needed.
Some things that may help manage flare-related joint pain include:
- Rest between activity to avoid overusing inflamed joints
- Heat or cold therapy depending on your symptoms
- Range-of-motion exercises to keep joints flexible
- Medications like NSAIDs or DMARDs as prescribed by your doctor
