I have been taking Enbrel for 7 months. I am noticing a correlation of not feeling well after eating red meat. Most of the time I eat chicken.

Last night we had tacos (no taco seasoning, just fried hamburger) and this morning I have horrible burps with an awful taste almost like fish oil. I do not take any fish oil at all.

I got very sick a while back from eating a steak that was not fully cooked. Same symptoms.

Does anyone else find themselves suffering with indigestion after eating red… read more

Members shared their experiences with red meat causing digestive issues and inflammation while managing rheumatoid arthritis, with many concluding that limiting or eliminating beef and pork from their diets significantly reduced both gastrointestinal discomfort and joint inflammation. Several members offered practical solutions including keeping a food journal to identify triggers, trying digestive enzymes or papaya enzyme supplements, switching to turkey bacon, following a Mediterranean diet as recommended by the American College of Rheumatology, and focusing on poultry and fish as primary protein sources. A recurring theme was the importance of listening to your body and adjusting your diet accordingly, with members expressing concern about potential connections between digestive medications like Mounjaro and serious conditions like gastroparesis, while also celebrating community support and shared learning across different experience levels.

Take papya enzyme to digest proteins more efficiently

I don't think the two are related. As we age, we can lose the ability to produce enzymes needed to digest food. This can happen regardless of RA status or meds. I recommend trying digestive enzymes such as Doublewood Digestive Enzymes which can be found on Amazon in 90 day supplies for a very reasonable price. That has helped me for years.

Thanks @A myRAteam Member that's helpful! I will see what kind of turkey bacon might be available here.

I really do appreciate any and all inputs here from everyone. I'm pretty much a newbie compared to a lot of you Long Time Warriors so guidance & knowledge are both very Welcome! ❤️

My third rheumatologist told me that red meat, because it's blood isn't drained causes inflammation in my joints. I stopped eating beef and some pork for a year. It did reduce most of the inflammation in my joints. Giving up the bacon was hard, so I did return to eating the bacon before I found that pork doesn't retain a lot of blood. When I feel like I need a hamburger which my be once in a three month period I have one. Because I take a lot of natural stuff my inflammation doesn't cause a flare up. Those doctors that are working for your best interest are few, but I look up information to help myself. Things that catch my attention online I take it to my doctor visits. I saw an article that showed three scientists that won a noble prize because they found a remedy for a compromised immune systems that doctors have been saying that they don't know what, why and how to help people with this issue. Most of the important scientific creations are not done in the United States. That says a lot about why we are always at a doctor's office. Be blessed 🙏🏽🌹

I have cut red meat out of my diet and never have this happen. That was ten years ago.
