Enthesitis-related arthritis (EnA) is actually not the same as rheumatoid arthritis. It's a type of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) that affects areas where muscles, tendons, and ligaments attach to bones - called entheses. Common areas include the feet, knees, hips, elbows, and pelvis.

While enthesitis isn't typically a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis, research shows it can occur in people with RA. Studies found that enthesitis affects at least one area in about 46-48% of people with rheumatoid arthritis when detected by ultrasound.

If the new member is experiencing pain where tendons attach to bones, especially in the feet or heels, they should discuss this with their rheumatologist. Proper diagnosis through imaging like ultrasound can help identify the issue early and prevent more severe joint damage.

In my humble opinion, most people with RA also have a link to gut problems, especially since the gut is like your "second brain." I know through 42 years of experience, if my gut isn't doing well, the RA is worse.
