What can help with a bad cough when you have rheumatoid arthritis?

For a bad cough, there are several over-the-counter options you might consider, but it's important to talk with your doctor first, especially since you're managing RA and may be taking medications like methotrexate or other immunosuppressants.

General cough relief options include:

* Over-the-counter cough suppressants or expectorants
* Staying well-hydrated to help thin mucus
* Using a humidifier to add moisture to the air
* Throat lozenges or honey to soothe throat irritation

Important considerations:

If your cough persists for more than 10 days, is accompanied by fever, or you're experiencing difficulty breathing, you should contact your doctor. People with RA who take immunosuppressive medications may be more susceptible to infections, so a persistent cough could indicate something that needs medical attention.

Your doctor can determine whether your cough is due to a simple cold, a sinus infection, or something else that might require prescription treatment like antibiotics or other medications. They'll also make sure any recommended treatments won't interact with your RA medications.

I always keep Musinex and vicks vabor rub and bourbon and milk handy as well as Airborne.
I can honestly say that having continued to wear a cloth mask, after covid, I have not had a reason to use them all year.
I hope this helps!
