No, Baker's cysts specifically occur behind the knee joint, not in the fingers or thumbs. The swelling you're experiencing in your fingers and thumbs is a common symptom of rheumatoid arthritis joint inflammation.

When RA affects joints, they can become swollen, tender, warm to the touch, and stiff. This typically occurs symmetrically, meaning it affects the same joints on both sides of your body. Baker's cysts are fluid-filled sacs that only form behind the knee when there is swelling in the knee joint and extra fluid drains to the back of the knee. If you're concerned about the swelling in your fingers and thumbs, it's important to discuss this with your healthcare provider as untreated joint inflammation can lead to damage of tendons, cartilage, and bone.

BelindaHodge, I should have said that my RA can be felt in just one area at a time at times. Yes it is often in multiple areas of my whole body and I've had it for 18 years. I have it in my left jaw but not my right side.

My RA often effects one area with pain at a time. My very first symptoms were in my right knee.
